Lake Salvador, immediately south of Lake Cataouatche, has plenty of aquatic vegetation and a healthy supply of bait. Even with occasional saltwater influence, largemouth bass continue to hold throughout the system.
Fall can be a productive time to target bass around the grass beds. Rising and falling tides can both create opportunities, especially along shorelines, points, and channels where moving water concentrates food.
Where to Focus
Areas around Catahoula Bay and the channels near the entrance to Bayou Perot are worth working. Wind is also a major factor on a lake this size, so the protected shoreline can be a better choice on rough days.
The bass feed on crawfish, insects, small fish, and other available forage. Topwater lures and crankbaits can work along shorelines, while jigs are useful around stumps and other deeper cover.
