In South Louisiana, largemouth bass are sometimes jokingly called “green trout.” That local nickname became especially funny for us during one trip when a game warden took a look at a cooler full of black bass.
The story is still being pulled together from our old trip notes, but it belongs on the site because it captures part of the personality of fishing around New Orleans: saltwater and freshwater overlap, anglers move between trout, redfish, and bass, and the local vocabulary can sound a little different if you did not grow up around it.
